Well we have been totally disconnected from the world for several weeks. We moved December 15th and we were to have everything hooked up with phone and Internet the17th. It didn't happen. After Kevin spent 5 hours on the phone with the phone company and nothing could be accomplished we gave up. We had a nice quite Christmas because of that. Actually it was probably good for Holly so that she could get so much of the house unpacked, sorted, stored etc.. without "any" distraction. Well almost.
So we have a lot to catch everyone up on.
December 20th Holly's doctor ordered an ultrasound at the hospital. She was concerned that the baby was not growing correctly. I was measuring at 34 weeks when I was 37 weeks. That morning Kevin and I woke up to the stomach flu for the second time in two weeks! yuck!!! My doctor still wanted me to go in so I went to the hospital barf bag in hand. Not a fun day! The ultrasound turned out to show the baby was growing fine, Praise the Lord! My fluids looked low (probably from the flu) so my doctor ordered another ultrasound for Dec 31st; Kevin's birthday. I kind of thought she was being a little overly cautious and wasn't looking forward to spending another afternoon at the hospital again. They took me for the ultrasound after waiting an hour from a miscommunication. I had the lab tech, the resident doctor and ultrasound doctor all wanting to take a look at the baby. It was quite a circus at times. I thought I was just being the willing patient for all to observe and learn from. They then told me that they had found an abnormality on my placenta that they had not detected in any of the previous ultrasounds. It could of caused me problems if they didn't know about it and it didn't come out with the placenta. So I then saw the purpose in all of it and thanked the Lord for all the hassle. They had be get ready to go, well I thought I was going, and then they came back in for MORE news. Not only had they found the abnormality but they also found that my placenta was showing signs of age. It wasn't delivering the nutrients that it should be to the baby and they were going to send me up to Labour and Delivery right away to talk to my doctor about being induced, maybe even that day!! Wow!! I wasn't expecting that! Kevin was at home with Hudson taking a "birthday" nap so I didn't want to call him and wake him until I knew what was going to happen. I got put into a room for observation and my doctor came in. She said that with the placenta the way it is could cause the baby to stop growing and getting nutrients and the worst case scenario would be that the baby could die. Well when you hear that you think take this baby now! She said with you being close to 39 weeks there is no reason not to induce you so she was going to talk to a specialist to see if we needed to induce right then or we could wait a day or two. The specialist came in to see me and said that it would be done Wednesday at 8:00am. It was Monday at 5pm when I left the hospital. I called Kevin to tell him the news. So we had very little time to "nest" and get things in order for this baby. Since I was late with Hudson I really was counting on another week to get things done around here for the baby. God had other plans and had a perfect earlier birth date for this baby. Kevin and I did lots the next night and a day we had. I felt bad for Kevin because he didn't get much of a birthday celebration. We brought in the new year moving and unpacking boxes and doing some major nesting!
Wednesday morning-The day to be induced.
We went into the hospital at 8:00am. They gave me Cervicil to start my labor and then they were going to send me home to labor after 2 hours of observation. I wasn't too thrilled about going home and prayed that my labor would be enough to stay. 15 minutes after they put the Cervicil in me my body started to terribly cramp and the baby's heart rate took a sudden dip. From 140 to 85-90. I called my nurse in and she was worried. They turned me every way they could to try and change the condition of the baby but nothing worked. The nurse said that they may have to take me for a c-section. They took the Cervicil out and put me on oxygen. They then rushed me to Labour and Delivery. In that small room there was a flurry of activity as they hooked me up to everything and broke my water and put a probe on the baby's head to more accurately measure the heartbeat. Well I got my wish and was going to be staying, not exactly in the way I had planned. Baby's heart rate was back to normal so they observed how they baby was responding to my contractions after the water broke. Baby was doing well so they started me on Oxytocin. Very slowly they started me. 12:50pm at 6.0 then they upped it to 12.0 at 1:40. 2:15pm they went to 18.0. That was all my body needed to really start active labor. 2:30pm they checked me and I was 8cm. 2:52 Haddon James came into the world with 3 pushes. The nurse came to check me again and her finger hit the head, o.k you are ready!! Hang on the doctor is almost here. My doctor had had 5 deliveries in the last 48 hours and only 2 hours of sleep so she was home sleeping. The on-call doctor was 20 minutes away. Well I could not wait 20 minute so we took the resident doctor. Any doctor will do at that time! :) Haddon came out purple faced. Scarred Kevin, but the doctor and nurses knew that it was just bruising from coming out so fast. Poor guy. The pictures show how he looked like a boxer that got beaten up. He even had broken blood vessels in his eye. It wasn't a very good time for him. He let out a big scream when he came out so we knew he was breathing. The bruising healed almost over night. He looks much better today.
Haddon James weighted 6lbs 10ozs 19 1/2 inches long. Born January 2nd. He is a sweet thing.
They only keep you 24 hours in the hospital here so we were home Thursday by noon. We are all doing great! A home nurse came by the house on Friday (a nice thing that Alberta Health care does) and I and Haddon checked out great.
He is a great nurser and sleeper during the day :) We will see what happens tonight we sure would like to continue the pattern of sleep. A pretty happy baby so far.
Thank you for your prayers and we will be doing more updates soon.
